Glasgow Style Feature – Antique Collecting Magazine

The Summer 2018 edition of Antique Collecting magazine includes a feature by Colette Keaveny on the Glasgow Style’s Unsung Heroes (and Heroines!). The articles focuses on ten important designers, providing examples of their work and guidance on how to recognise Glasgow Style objects.

2018 is the 150th anniversary of the birth of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. To mark the occasion, the city of Glasgow is hosting a temporary exhibition from 30th March – 14 August 2018 at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The exhibition brings together a number of pieces from Glasgow’s civic collection which have never been shown or displayed in Glasgow for 30 years or more. These include objects across a wide range of media by contemporaries of Mackintosh, including Frances and Margaret Macdonald, Talwin Morris, Ann Macbeth and Jessie Marion King.

In Andy Mitchell’s blog he celebrates his great aunt, Ann Macbeth, and uncovers a fascinating and little-known history of a commission she worked on back in the early 1900s - not in the city of Glasgow, but in Sheffield
